DECA
Members Compete at Regional Competition

On
Sunday January 10th, the GIHS chapter of DECA made its way to
Lewiston-Porter High School to compete against six other Western New York
Schools in various business-related events. Students participated in either
individual or team events regarding every aspect of business imaginable, from
marketing to accounting to buying and merchandising. Each event served to
educate students in the business field: events dealing with job interviews and
public speaking helped to develop better communication skills, and events
involving role play and test-taking encouraged students to think critically and
creatively when dealing with tough situations.
Grand
Island performed especially well, with twenty-one of its participants qualifying
for state competition. Winners included:

addition to the above mentioned, those attending state competition in Rochester
this upcoming March include Amy Grenke, participating in a chapter scrapbooking
event, and Anthony Grande, who will be participating in a Manual Event. Special
thanks go out to the DECA advisors, Mrs. Cheryl Chamberlain and Mr. Christopher
Simpson, for their constant dedication and effort before and during the
competition.
